Maida Hill Tunnel still closed
THE REGENT'S CANAL was closed on Monday due to an environmental pollution incident.
This was related to a fire at St Johns Wood Substation that caused debris in the Maida Hill Tunnel that has to be cleared, Keith Gudgin reports.
This tunnel was closed to navigation and still is closed.
Contain the pollution
The emergency services have been on site all night and continue to be [under] incident control, Canal & River Trust relate, telling that it is continuing to work closely with the services and contractors on site from National Grid to contain the pollution.
Then it will start to develop a plan to clear up now that the fire is out and temperature more manageable.
This is an evolving situation so the tunnel will continue to be closed until the clean up is complete. It is requested that boaters do not move in the affected area to help minimise the spread of pollution.
