Two swing bridges reopened

TWO OF THE broken swing bridges have been repaired with navigations reopened.

Foxton Swing Bridge on the Market Harborough Arm has had its repairs completed and boaters can proceed as normal, Keith Gudgin reports.

Maghull Swing Bridge 12 on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal has also had a successful repair and the navigation reopened.

Water shortage

However there is still a shortage of water closing the Rochdale Canal from locks 1 to 24. With Canal & River Trust telling there is still little improvement in the navigation but the pump is starting to take effect. 

However, it will remain closed as it is not ready to be opened-up to navigation.

The trust states it is still closely monitoring the water levels but they have still not recovered.

The Huddersfield Narrow Canal is still closed between locks 1E and 42E through lack of water.  But the trust tell it has been closely monitoring the navigation.

There is still little improvement in the navigation and as in the Rochdale situation, the pump is starting to take effect. However, it will remain closed as it is not ready to be opened up to navigation, the trust tells.
