Doesn't see much hope for Mon & Brec
AFTER READING of the problem with the water supply to the Mon & Brec I don't see much hope for it, writes T. Lang.
If the published figure of £1million a year is required from Canal & River Trust, to use water from the Usk then there is little chance.
It complaining about the lack of cash and the possibility of closures, then the Mon & Brec seems to be the first candidate for closure as paying £1million a year to keep it open is a non-starter.
Cannot understand
What I just cannot understand is that as the water taken is then emptied back into the river further down its course, then there can only be a very slight loss, as even leaking gates means the water is still kept in the canal and so back to the Usk.
I see that the Senedd petition calling for the Welsh Government 'to intervene and help preserve the unique character of the canal' has been launched with its figure now at 4,449.
So putting a link on the site has certainly brought it to the attention of boaters who of course don't want to see any waterway lost.
