Canal forum to discuss future plans for Montgomery Canal
THERE IS to be a canal forum next month to discuss future developments and plans for the future of the Montgomery Canal.
This to cover its developments in Powys and Shropshire, Janet Friend reports.
The Montgomery Canal Forum is being held at Hafan Yr Afon, Newtown at 2.30pm on Friday, 4th April.
Montgomery Waterway Restoration Trust is offering an open invitation to anyone interested in the restoration and development of the canal, and particularly with regards to its social, economic and environmental benefits.
Presentations
There will presentations to volunteers who have given their time to work on the restoration over the years and to those who have donated towards Restore the Montgomery Canal! appeal that has raised over £1 million from private individuals, companies and charitable trusts.
Restoration in Powys include a multi-million pound Levelling-Up project to build new bridges and locks and safeguarded the ecology with new nature reserves.
There will be an opportunity to discuss any matters concerning the restoration and the future of the canal and what it can contribute to the areas it passes through. The photograph shows the restored Schoolhouse Bridge in February 2024 that had been completely 'lost'.
