CANAL & RIVER TRUST tell that a blow has caused lock gates not to equalise, yet state navigation is open.
But how can it be usable when water cannot equalise? Asks Keith Gudgin when reporting.
These are the bottom gales on Copper Mill Lock 84 on the Grand Union Canal.
Cannot equalise
But indeed, if the water cannot equalise when the lock in full, how can the gates be operated considering the high water pressure against them?
Boaters are advised that the regional team are aware of the issue of the bottom gates which is causing the lock not to equalise, with 'operations have been to site and are awaiting specialist support'.
Boaters are advised by the trust not to use the lock unless necessary!
