The closures continue
A FAULT with a gate on the Anderton Boat Lift, closed the lift on Friday.
It was as it was being prepared for the day's operation that this was found, Keith Gudgin reports.
This was a fault with East river gate, but nothing could be done as it needed further inspection then any recommendations to be acted upon.
So the lift remains closed and any bookings that have been made are cancelled until the problem can be rectified.
The fault requires further investigation and the lift can no longer be operated until those investigations and any recommendations are complete.
Kennet & Avon
The following day, Saturday, saw the Kennet & Avon Canal closed.
The Woolhampton Swing Bridge 31 had developed a fault on the system that controls the barriers and the timing of the bridge, with we are told, the specialist team being alerted.
In the meantime the navigation is of course closed.
New Junction Canal
And the breakages keep coming with the New Junction Canal closed, and again by a broken Lift Bridge.
It is the Top Lane Lift Bridge 3, this time that has failed, on Saturday, owing to a 'structure failure'. it has been secured in the closed position, with the power turned off, so is of course unable to be lifted to allow boat passage.
The picture of Top Lane Lift Bridge by Pennine Waterways shows the original cooling towers that are now demolished.
