The floods are here and gettting worse
MOST parts of the inland waterways saw a great amount of rain throughout last night pushing the rivers into flood.
With a warning from various concerned associations advising boaters to get off the rivers if they are moored on such, or if unable, to make sure your boat is safely secured.
Particularly in marinas on rivers, our seeing it happen all too often when we moored at Sawley Marina on the Trent, with many boaters tying their boats with a centre rope tightly to the top of the sliding assembly that allows for floods.
Mistake
This is where many boaters make the mistake of tying boats too tight, so when the river rises it pulls the boat under, and so it sinks. The two in our picture show how boaters, who do not realise the risk, tie their boats too securely and at the top of the slide that allows boats to rise when secured properly. And we actually warned one of the boaters just before we left, but he took no notice.
Possibly they learnt their lesson in the flood a few weeks later. And the same occurs at other river marinas we have reported in the past.
