Trent Dunham moorings repaired

IT WAS way back in January that the northern section of the Dunham moorings on the Trent was broken and unusable.

But at last, nearly a year later the moorings have been repaired and are entirely useable, Keith Gudgin reports.

TidalBoreTrentIt was the storms of that period causing the floods on the tidal river that caused the breakage, with a crane needed to undertake the repair, that obviously has now been used.

Cut down capacity

Though part of the moorings were still useable, the broken part cut down the overall capacity for boats, particularly narrowboats, that could be at the mercy of the high tides that occur and especially the Aegir tidal bore, as shown rushing up the river.

But now the entire moorings are one again available for boats being caught in dangerous circumstances.
