Bidford Bridge reopens today
BIDFORD Bridge has been closed since August when a car damaged its structure.
But it is now repaired and is now open to traffic today, Friday, Roger Fox reports.
The 15th century Grade I listed monument over the Avon has been closed to cars to allow for repair works following a car crash on the bridge.
Wedged between walls
The car was wedged between the two walls damaging the parapet and part of the structure.
Warwickshire County Council’s transport spokesperson Councillor Jan Matecki, explained:
“This has been a complex and challenging project, requiring specialist skills and careful planning. We’re grateful to everyone involved for their hard work and dedication in ensuring the bridge is restored to its former glory.”
The traffic management and signs at Bidford Bridge will also be removed so will allow improved journey times for motorists.
Boat traffic under the bridge was only affected for a short time whilst scaffolding was erected then taken down.
