Another saga has developed

AFTER the saga of continuing water problems on the Erewash Canal it seems another saga has developed.

This time it concerns the Loco Lift Bridge on the Huddersfield Broad Canal, Keith Gudgin reports.

LocoBridgeHuddersfield'Vital inspection'

The bridge had a 'vital inspection' in January of this year to make sure that all was in order.

But alas it failed on the 18th of November being told its drive mechanism has caused the stoppage so the motor was removed and taking to a workshop for inspection and repairs, that was undertaken and it then replaced.

But it still  did not work, as obviously the wrong part, so a further inspection took place on the 29th and it was found to be a clutch fault, but as it was of German manufacture Canal & River Trust told it had to source a replacement in Germany, and are looking at repair options'.

Still would not work

But it wasn't the clutch, for when it was installed the bridge still would not work!

So now it has been decided it is the electronics, and a further contractor was on hand yesterday to the check the electronics.

It is very obvious that these people haven't a clue—and it doesn't say much for those who undertook that 'vital inspection' either.
