Can't understand continuing bridge failure
I JUST cannot understand the continuing problem with the Loco Lift Bridge, only that it is stopping us returning to our moorings for winter, writes Jenny Draycot.
We moor at Aspley Wharf where the Huddersfield Broad meets the Huddersfield Narrow and always take to the Broad to get out onto the system even though it means using the tidal Trent, that I certainly don't care for, but the Huddersfield Narrow, one way or another, is so often closed and passage through the tunnel limited that it is too much of a risk using that way onto the system, coupled with the Marple Flight more closed that it is open and the Ashton having problems too.
The Loco was closed in January, I guess as a winter work, and was given a good going-over, but it seems it was not good enough as it has broken down, our being informed last Wednesday that its drive motor had failed and been taken away for inspection and repair, but found to be okay, so further inspection of the bridge was then required.
It is now a week later since it was closed but no notice of it being fixed and we had to leave our boat moored by the towpath that is not too safe as we have been told there have been boats broken into, so our hope is that it is soon fixed so we can get to our moorings.
