Winter works still being cancelled...

WINTER works are still being cancelled by Canal & River Trust.

The latest one is the refurbishment of the Audlem Flood Valve above Audlem Lock 1 on the Shropshire Union Canal, Keith Gudgin reports.

Underwater inspection

A stoppage was required due to localised dewatering of the canal to facilitate an underwater Inspection, de-silting and refurbishment of the operational sluice with a fabric dam placed around the sluice so water can still pass. Unfortunately boats cannot pass due to the fragility of the dam, the trust state.

These works have been moved into next year to coincide with other works planned to get more efficient delivery and reduce disruption to boaters the trust adds. Some lesser work will be undertaken this year however that do not need a stoppage.
