Radcliffe-on-Soar £330m waste incinerator in doubt
THE plans for a new £330m waste incinerator on the site of the Ratcliffe-on-Soar coal fired power station are in doubt.
One of the major shareholders has decided not to proceed, Janet Friend reports.
The old power station, near to Ratcliffe Lock on the Soar, closed on the 30th of September with plans to replace it with a £330m waste incinerator on the same site. Artists' impression shown.
Rubber stamped
The new incinerator was approved by Nottinghamshire County Council's planning committee in 2021 and rubber-stamped by the government the following year, though there were complaints from environmental campaigners.
Uniper Energy, a German company. which owns the site, tells it was now looking at alternative options for the future after one of its former shareholders decided not to proceed, giving up the shares.
