Three more closures
IT IS HOPED that the Canal & River Trust told of all the many closures on the system to help with its effort for more cash when in conversation with the government.
This is as an attempt to get more money, the closures clearly showing the strain on the infrastructure through lack of cash.
There have been three more closures in addition to the three already reported as Keith Gudgin reports.
Caldon Canal
The navigation and towpath of the Caldon Canal are closed between Bucknall Road Bridge 12 and Botany Bay Bridge 14.
However it is not told why, only that it is for health and safety reasons that the navigation and towpath are closed, and it is in conversation with a third-party land owner to ensure a thorough investigation.
What is being investigated in also not told.
Ashton Canal
Another strange one. Ashton Canal is closed at Lock 3 from today, Monday, due to unexpected circumstances.
But no intimation what the unexpected circumstances. are, only that they concern the new bridge that is under construction between locks 2 and 3.
The trust is optimistic the works will start today and last until Friday.
Kennet & Avon Canal
West Mills Swingbridge 62 on the Kennet & Avon is out of action and closed, with vandals getting the blame.
The fault is with the control panel and the bridge being locked in the closed position.
However the contractors will be attending today, Monday.
