Urgent work cancelled

WINTER works scheduled for Derwent Mouth Lock on the Trent & Mersey Canal have been cancelled.

These works were scheduled for next Monday 11th November but will not now take place, Keith Gudgin reports.

 Yet the works are urgent as the gates are leaking so much it is extremely difficult for boaters to open them as it is near impossible to get the water level, boater Jeff Hardcastle tells us.

Wait for help

He telling though he is only in his 40s and fit he had to wait for a walker to help get the gate started so he could open it.

The lock ladders also need attention, that was intended to be undertaken at the same time.

There is no intimation when the work will be done.
