Another winter works cancelled

THE winter works schedule was lately announced showing many repairs that were to be undertaken.

However these are being rapidly cancelled, at the rate of one a day, Keith Gudgin reports.

The latest to 'bite the dust' is on the Rochdale Canal with the work scheduled for winter works being at Key Lane Lock 64, with the navigation from Chadderton to Failsworth being closed.

Unworkable

We are now told that these works are no longer going ahead within this winter works programme as site constraints now make the planned method of construction unworkable in the time available.

So the work is now rescheduled for a future winter works programme using an alternative construction method.

It is not told why this alternative method cannot be used this winter. However the navigation now remains open.

The two other cancellations this week were on the Llangollen and the Caldon canals.
