A MALE choir took a narrowboat on a tour, yesterday, Sunday, to raise money for children with special educational needs.

The money will go towards providing a boat to give the children outings on the waterways.

The Cor Bach Choir were on the narrowboat The Beatrice as it cruised the Caldon Canal, with the 11 strong capella group visiting four pubs along the way, performing and collecting.

Member Rowan Pritchard Jones, told:

The Beatrice is the boat at the heart of a charity that will take children out with all sorts of different special needs onto those tranquil, beautiful waters, making their way up through the canals.

“The children who otherwise would not get an opportunity like that, children for whom the world is a noisy, chaotic and a difficult place to navigate."

He told that the tour felt like the ultimate Sunday pub crawl, with people joining them in the pubs and enjoying their songs.

The Cor Bach Choir itself was initially formed in a pub, having come together from a bigger choir which was based out of the collieries in Silverdale. As a capella group from Staffordshire, it won the inaugural Midlands Choir of the Year competition in 2022.
