IT WAS in July that a breach closed Aqueduct 38 at Hollowforth on The Lancaster Canal and the navigation closed.

Today, Thursday, it will be opened for controlled boat movement at 10am, Keith Gudgin reports.

However it will only be open daily from 10am to 4pm until Thursday, 3rd October. The navigation will be closed outside these hours.

Boaters must follow the guidance of the on-site team to ensure a safe crossing and mooring is not allowed in the vicinity.

Canal & River Trust state its team will continue to monitor the dam closely throughout the passage window, and there is a possibility that boat movements may need to be paused temporarily if required.

A further update will be provided on Friday, 4th October.

New process

A new process was used to secure the breach so the trust will be monitoring the dam throughout the passage window, hence the possibility that boat movements may need to be paused temporarily if any issues arise.

After the passage window closes, work will be resumed on repairing the embankment and aqueduct.
