Two closures on the 'Narrow'

Published: Thursday, 15 August 2024

AFTER the closure of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal from Lock 24W to 32W on Monday through paddle failure, comes more bad news.

This is that the navigation is still closed at its eastern end from Lock 1E to Lock 16E, making the navigation virtually impossible from both ends, Keith Gudgin reports..

The reason given is 'repair', but it is lack of water that has closed the canal. This is caused by a leak on the aqueduct by Lock 12E.

There is another closure on the Trent, this time at Cromwell Lock with a 'structure failure'.

And it's another 'method of repair' that has to be found to fix a defect on one of the bolts on a lock gate collar.

So the lock is closed with no date given when the bolt will be attended to.

Rochdale closed again

It was earlier this week that the Rochdale Canal was reopened from Lock 27 to Lock 30 it having been closed through lack of water.

Alas, the opening did not last as we are told navigation between these two locks is again closed—through lack of water.
