Cleaning the tidal Thames
Published: Friday, 05 March 2010
THE banks of the tidal Thames had a good clean-up on Tuesday (2nd March) as it was the lowest tide for five years. The clean-up event attracted around 100 volunteers, and was organised by the waterways charity, Thames21, with them gathering at Newcastle Draw Dock in East London for Deep Clean.
Different locations
Deep Clean took place in four different locations in West and East London, with everything needed provided by the organiser, with the exceptionally low tide revealing large amounts of litter.
It has been estimated that 250,000 plastic bags have been collected from the Thames in the last ten years.
