Narrowboat stuck in Audlem Lock as gates fail

FURTHER to our article on the closure of the Audlem Flight on the Shrophire Union Canal.

The gates have collapsed whilst the boat was in the lock, with Canal & River Trust stating that this is because of 'damage believed to have been caused by vandals'.

Gates dropping

The flight was closed Tuesday with the gates dropping while the narrowboat was coming into the lock.

The trust tell  the gates became detached from the lock walls after someone removed both gate collar fixings, with the boat stuck in the lock until the gates can be lifted and then re-set.
