Final section of new bridge over the Severn installed
THE final section of a footbridge over the navigational Severn in Worcester has been installed.
Though windy conditions meant the bridge was delayed it was finally fitted on Thursday, Janet Friend reports.
It required a crane to handle the work but was installed without problem.
12-tonne section
The 12-tonne section was moved with the help of a crane with the construction started in October and was estimated by Worcestershire County Council to cost £16 million. (Image courtesy of the council.)
Thursday's work completed all of the various lifts that had been in progress over the past two weeks.
Bolting of the sections was undertaken from a moving platform, with future work including handrails and lighting.
Then there will be landscaping and planting taking place in Gheluvelt Park before handover of the bridge.
