Incident closes Pontcysyllte Aqueduct

THE  Pontcysyllte Aqueduct on the Llangollen Canal was closed yesterday, Sunday.

This was due to an 'incident', Janet Friend reports.

There were both police vehicles and ambulances present at the scene, but no information was given concerning the 'incident'.

Closed for boats and walkers

The police closed the aqueduct for boats and the towpath for walkers.

Boater Alfred, stuck waiting to cross, told that there was a great deal of activity with the police but no boats were allowed across or anyone to the opposite side.

The aqueduct and towpath were reopened in the early afternoon but the visitor centre remained closed.
