THE completion of yet another bridge on the Wey & Arun Canal is to be celebrated.

The Wey & Arun Canal Trust are delighted to announce that the official opening of the Birtley Bridge No. 2 will be at 2pm on Saturday, 28th October, with the Deputy Lieutenant Mary Creswell attending and representing the Lord Lieutenant.

The bridge is about one mile south of Bramley village, near to the Downs Link walking and cycling route; the What3Words address is ///slips.unique.grapes. The picture shows the bridge under construction.

Parking in the Birtley area is very limited and if you need a disabled parking space we will make special arrangements, and in this case (only) please email This email address is being protected from spambots. If you can, please take the opportunity to park in Bramley village and take the traffic-free path along the Downs Link (the old railway route) for about one mile to Birtley.

Take the time to walk

We recommend that while you are in the Birtley area you take the time to walk down the towpath to see Birtley Bridge No. 1 and the popular circular walking route we have created. This circular walk from the Downs Link path goes past both bridges.
