VOLUNTEERS are needed for work on the Bridgwater & Taunton Canal.

This is for such as litter picking, cutting grass, removing vegetation from the canal, and such as carpentry and laying concrete, Trevor Mapstone reports.

BridgwaterTauntonSince the Covid pandemic, the volunteer group organised by Mike Slade, has seen a reduction in volunteers and the 14.5 miles waterway having a build-up in vegetation and a deterioration of its infrastructure.

Hopes to attract volunteers

Mike, who started the group in 2013, to keep the canal in good condition, hopes to attract more volunteers for this Saturday August 27th to maintain the canal, describing it as a 'hidden gem of Somerset', remarking:

"This Saturday's event will mainly involve removing waterbound litter from the canal, and general litter from the river footpaths."
