Boats grounding in Kennet & Avon tunnel

THERE are reports of narrowboats grounding in Bruce Tunnel on the Kennet & Avon Canal.

This is obviously caused by water shortage, Keith Gudgin reports.

Leakage

Even though there have been heavy downpours, it would seem the leakage of the locks on the summit pound has caused a shortage of water resulting in Canal & River Trust taking action.

The navigation is now closed from Lock 51 at Wootton Rivers to Lock 61 on the Crofton Flight. This takes effect from this morning, Monday.

The summit pound will remain closed until the present water shortage improves.
