BEING closed since the 5th of July, we were informed yesterday, Thursday, that Cowling Swing Bridge is now closed for repairs!

Excuses?

When originally closed we were informed this Leeds & Liverpool swing bridge 'has dropped significantly and had to be mechanically moved back into position'. Reason/excuse No 1.

CowlingThen an inspection by engineers was required that the stoppage was 'due to twisted and corroded beams under the bridge deck'. Reason/excuse No 2.

After that a window of passage was given on the 8th and 11th to clear the waiting boats.  With a further passage yesterday, Thursday.

Remains unavailable

Then we were told 'Cowling Bridge remains unavailable for customer operation due to the damage it has sustained'. Reason/excuse No 3. Passing the blame.

Now we are told that there will not be an update until Monday 24th, and only an update—not the repair actually being completed, Keith Gudgin reports.

So it looks like the Leeds & Liverpool will be closed for a month in the middle of summer.
