LEEDS Lock (1) on the Aire & Calder will be closed for over three weeks as from yesterday.
Three days since last closed
This is just three days since it was last closed owing to an underwater obstruction, but this time it is the usual 'damage that has occurred'.
This, it is told, is making safe operation of the top gates difficult, so the lock has been closed until the 4th of August 'for operator safety and to prevent any accident occurring'.
So now work teams and diver support, are now organising plant, equipment and materials to undertake repairs.
Will be safe
Once the repairs are completed the lock will be safe for normal operation.
It is not told why this 'damage' was not noticed when the contractors attended three days ago—or who caused it.
