Police are currently hunting a killer of a 44 years old woman who subsequently died after being stabbed, Keith Gudgin reports.

Died at the scene

The Tameside emergency services were called out at around noon yesterday, Friday, and discovered the woman by the waterway, but she tragically died at the scene.

It is not known if the killer, understood to be male, was known to the woman, but the police are making enquiries to attempt to establish if so.

It is thought the killer fled along the towpath after the attack.

Chief Superintendent Phil Davies, Tameside’s District Commander, told:

Callous attack

"Firstly, our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim. Our specialist family liaison officers are currently with the victim’s family to support them through what is an incredibly difficult time and we will do everything we can to ensure we locate the person responsible for this callous attack."

The area around the waterway is currently sealed off while specialist officers conduct further enquiries.
