Biggest ever Chesterfield Canal Festival

THE Chesterfield Canal Festival looks like being the biggest ever with a host of activities lined-up.

Held on the week-end of Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th June at Staveley Town Basin, it runs from 10am to 5pm on both days.

Swing Commanders

On the Friday before there will be a concert by the Swing Commanders at 7.30pm, followed on the Saturday with a concert by the WonderWhys at 7.30pm.

After the week-end there will be a flotilla of all the trust's trip boats all the way up the canal to Tapton Lock and back. Then on the Tuesday 27th June, there will be a What, Where and When Restoration Walk to show how the canal’s route looks at present before the major works start next year.

At the Festival itself there will be cruises on trip boats, Entertainment in the big marquee and outside, Drive a Digger, canoeing, zorbing, birds of prey, childrens' rides, water walking balls, bumper boats, spinning bumper carz, dance teams, a brass band, Newfoundland rescue dogs, wildlife groups, face painting, craft stalls, charity stalls, lots of Food stalls and a real ale bar.

On Saturday 24th at 4.41pm there will be a flypast by a Spitfire and on Sunday 25th at 14.30 there will be a flypast by a Hurricane.

There will also be a dog show.

Q&A sessions

The trust’s Development Manager will be holding Q&A sessions in the marquee about the plans for the restoration of the canal.

Entrance is £6 for adults, Under 16s are free. There will be blue badge parking on-site and free parking a few hundred yards away.
