Not a lot of 'wellbeing' on the waterways this Easter

THERE has certainly not been a lot of the much proclaimed 'wellbeing' on the waterways this past Easter.

In addition to the boy drowning in the Aire & Calder and the two cyclists crashing on the towpath of the Thames, with one in critical condition comes further news of a towpath double rape, Keith Gudgin reports.

Grand Union Canal

Two teenage girls were allegedly raped on the Grand Union Canal towpath over the Easter weekend in Aylesbury.

The two girls were walking on the towpath in Aylesbury, Bucks, between 9.30pm and 10.00pm on Saturday when the attacks allegedly took place.

A 17 years old boy from Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, was arrested on suspicion of two rapes but has been released on police bail.

Detective Sergeant Thomas Booth told:

Thorough investigation

"This is a concerning incident but I would like to reassure the community that we are carrying out a thorough investigation. Our specialist officers are working to support the victims in connection with this incident.

"Members of the public may see an increased police presence while we continue to investigate and I would advise anyone with concerns to please speak to one of our officers."
