Repair of leaking cill added to winter works

THOUGH is was hoped that a damaged cill on a Aylesbury Arm lock would hold, it has become worse with the lock now closed for navigation.

The cill on the bottom gates of Lock 9 on the Aylesbury Arm, of the Grand Union Canal by Wilstone Village is leaking so much it has been added to the winter works, Keith Gudgin reports.

Now failed

The reason being the cill has now failed, so it is hoped to replace it before the 'season' starts, Canal & River Trust relate.

The increased leakage of course is so bad it will not allow the water in the lock to level and thus a gate to be opened.
