Another attempt to get model boat pool in Stratford

A FORMER application to construct a model boat pool in Stratford was withdrawn, but a further one has been submitted.

The revised plans are for the pool in Bancroft Gardens, that were withdrawn last July after complaints it would lead to a 'disneyfication' of the gardens, Roger Fox reports.

New plan

Nick Birch of Avon Boating Club has submitted a new plan for a pool in Bancroft Basin, for racing remote control boats, that now includes a floating pontoon.

He tells that the boat pool proposal will give residents and tourists the chance to do something new in the town and also give a boost to the local economy.

The plans required the installation of electrical controls and a fence on the side of the pool, but there was opposition from the Canal & River Trust that owns the Bancroft Basin and surrounding land and that the electrical installation would be too visible and detract from the conservation area.

In keeping

But the new submission includes a floating pontoon, that will contain most of the equipment and storage for the model boats overnight, that will be in keeping with the surrounding area.

It is now left to Stratford District Council to see if the floating pontoon will overcome the objections.
