THE Waterways Trust is giving grants of up to £5,000 for projects along the non-tidal Thames, from Cricklade to Teddington.

Joanne Darlington, the Director of Development for the trust explained:

"Each year we distribute approximately £40,000 to projects along the  Thames which either encourage more people to visit and experience the river or are aimed at improving habitats for wildlife along the waterway.

"This can include waterway or wildlife conservation projects; education or activity programmes or access improvements on and near the river"

The grants are given to organisations, community groups or schools. The closing date for applications to this year's fund is 31st March 2010.

The Waterways Trust is the charitable arm of British Waterways.
