Leakage causes another winter stoppage

A BADLY leaking bank on the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal has caused it to be added to the winter stoppages.

The soft bank near Brynich just upstream of Brynich Lock is badly leaking and so the navigation will be closed from Tuesday 3rd January until Friday 17th March—over 10 weeks, Keith Gudgin reports.

Dewatered

The canal has to be dewatered to enable the work to be undertaken to resolve the leakage.

As machinery will be used throughout the closure this means that the towpath will also be closed at times, with people having to wait for short periods before passing through the work area safely.
