Cancelled work closes waterway

THERE was work scheduled for last winter to replace lock gates that was cancelled.

Both the top and bottom gates at Thorne Lock on the Stainforth & Keadby Canal were stated to be in poor condition and required attention, but the work was cancelled last winter, with no reason given.

No longer operational

Obviously the gates should have been replaced as the lock is no longer operational, Keith Gudgin reports.

It failed yesterday, Sunday, and again no reason given only that engineers will be attending to assess and hopefully repair.
