Trent & Mersey Canal reopened with restrictions

THE Trent & Mersey Canal that was closed From Stoke to the bottom of Heartbreak Hill has reopened but with restrictions.

The entire length that included Stoke Locks right down to Middlewich was closed last Thursday 21st July due to low water levels, Keith Gudgin reports.

Such was the outcry at the closure of this important canal that the trust had little option but to rethink, and so allow some navigation.

The canal has now been reopened but only in the mornings.

It’s not clear how long the restrictions will remain in place, but if there is no significant and sustained rainfall it is likely further restrictions will be implemented, the trust maintains, or the waterway again closed.
