Vandals blamed again

WHENEVER there is low water on the Erewash Canal vandals are invariably blamed.

As they have been for the second time this month, but this time the trust has also blamed gates being left open between Eastwood Lock and Langley Mill Lock.

No navigation

Whatsoever, there is no navigation with the water levels having dropped too low.

Though in fact vandalism is nowhere near the level of the days before tablets and mobile phones; in those days all the Erewash locks had anti-vandal systems, that over the years have fallen into disuse or broken.

Perhaps if these were replaced the problem would be solved — unless of course, as many boaters believe it is simply leaking that is causing the problems...
