Further delay to Leeds & Liverpool opening

CANAL & River Trust are sorry but there will be further delay to the reopening of Eshton Road Lock (31) at Gargrave.

It was way back in September of last year when the Leeds & Liverpool Canal lock was closed due to a void in the chamber, with it being stated that more voids had been discovered, Keith Gudgin reports.

Varous reasons given

The waterway has remained closed as there have been delays after delays reported by the contractors, with various reasons given.

The bad news is that it will not now be open as promised on the 9th of May, but not until Wednesday 25th May when the work is completed will the navigation finally reopen.

At what cost this amounts to is not told, but why it should take eight months to fill voids and repair a wall should be investigated.
