Leeds & Liverpool closed for Easter holidays

THE broken Micklethwaite Swing Bridge has closed the Leeds & Liverpool Canal for the Easter Holidays.

The swing bridge at Bingley broke down on Thursday with it being told that it will not be repaired until after the holidays, Keith Gudgin reports.

Motor failure

It has suffered the failure of a motor on one of its traffic arms and is now inoperable and is locked in the closed position thus closing the navigation.

However there are occasional assisted passages of half hour should volunteers be available.

A motor is being sourced but will not be available until after the holidays.
