More Leeds & Liverpool woes

ANOTHER swing bridge has failed on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

New Lane Swing Bridge (31) has failed in the the closed position owing to a mechanical fault stopping the navigation at Burscough, Keith Gudgin reports.

Like many other swing bridges on the Leeds & Liverpool, New lane has a history of failures of one kind or another, having closed the navigation on the 23rd July this year, 20th November last year, 2nd May 2018 and 18th October 2017.

This time the closure will continue until replacement parts are available for the contractors to be able to undertake the repairs.

The waterway is also closed at the breach at Riston.

LATEST:  The swing bridge has now been repaired and open to navigation.
