IT WAS a quick repair indeed to the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, it being repaired the same day.

In Canal & River Trust language 'Our local team have been to site and established a method of repair', Keith Gudgin reports.

Double repair

Irvins Lock stripsIt was a double repair of a defunct seal strip on the head gate of Lock 27W causing a leak and a broken tail gate paddle preventing the lock from retaining water.

No details of the repairs, but the repair of the seal strip in one day throws into perspective the replacement of two seal strips on a gate on Irvin's Lock on the Leicester Section of the Soar that took contractors a whole week in August 2019.

Work obviously done

We were held up for the last day of the stoppage, while the workers sat idly by, our  taking the opportunity to take the photograph of the work that had obviously been done.

Pressure from boaters had the contractors open the lock early in the afternoon instead of the official time of 5pm.
