Normal start to the week

ONCE again as far as the navigations are concerned, it was a normal start to the week.

In addition to the unseated lock gate on the Shropshire Union and Leeds Lock on the Aire & Calder, already reported, there are other failures as Keith Gudgin reports.

Repair failed

The repair to the voids on the Huddersfield narrow between locks  29E and 30E has failed, with the lock closed again. Adding to the woes of this waterway, there is a problem with both head gate paddles at Lock 25W on the Diggle Flight, that rather points to the fact that only one was working.

And it would seem the same has occurred on the South Stratford as again both paddles have failed on Lock 51 gate closing the navigation.

The Vazon Swing Bridge on the Stainforth & Keadby needs repair work and so is closed. The connecting Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation is closed at Sprotbrough Lock due to an electrical fault.

Oxford closed again

It is a lock beam failure on Varney's Lock (23) that has closed the Oxford once again..

The Lee Navigation is closed at Lock 19 as repairs to a damaged gate are being carried out, with repairs starting next week.

And yet another failure on the Leicester Section, with problems with the paddles on Lime Kiln Lock at Abbey Park in Leicester they not allowing the water to equalise, as those on Ratcliffe Lock.

Could be open

With so many failures these days is is difficult to keep track, so it is of course possible that some of the stoppages listed above have now been attended to with the navigations open, so can only suggest boaters check with the trust to confirm...
