Keep out of the waterways

THE present hot weather is proving too much of a temptation for people to cool down in the waterways.

But it is dangerous as is being shown by the reported deaths from jumping into canals and rivers.

Two men drowned

A man has died after he leaped into the Ouse in York to cool down, with a 19 years old taking a dip in Salford Quays and getting into trouble, later dying.

A girl took to the Kennet & Avon Canal, reportedly from a lock gate, and found herself in difficulty being caught and unable to free herself and drowning.

Canal & River Trust warn of the dangers of the waterways for 'cooling-off' and advise people to resist the temptation.
