Stoppages mounting up

THERE were 13 stoppages on the waterways during last week!

From Saturday 12th June until Friday 18th Canal & River Trust announced 13 stoppages on the waterways, Keith Gudgin reports.

There were three on the Weaver—Anderton lift, Saltersford Lock and Dutton lock.

One on the Aire & Calder at Ferrybridge Lock.

One on the New Main Line at Factory Locks.

One on the Leeds & Liverpool at Bank Newton Lock.

One on the Macclesfield at Royal Oak Swing Bridge.

Two on the Kennet & Avon at Salford Lock and Ufton Swing Bridge.

One on the Rufford Branch at Chicken Lock.

Two on the Rochdale at Duke Street Lock to Castleford Lock and the guillotine lock.

One on the Leicester Section closing the Watford Flight

Not counting Macclesfield Royal Oak Swing Bridge that was caused by a vehicle strike, there were 12 caused by failures since the 12th. This does not count others that are ongoing such as the Aire & Calder breach.

Short term stoppages including fallen trees have not been included.

UPDATE:

At least 'wait until in breaks then mend it' is working is some cases, as the Rochdale, Leeds & Liverpool, Main Line and Watford have now been attended to and reopened.
