NEW evidence into the disappearance of  Alan Tennant who went missing near the Chesterfield Canal in the town on Christmas Eve have shown he was drunk.

He refused to get into the taxi taking his friends home, preferring to walk the eight miles home to Clowne,

Chesterfield's Community Safety Inspector, Ian Palfreyman, has told that the search has been scaled down, with the case remaining open after having exhausted all possible lines of inquiry.

"He was drunk when he decided to walk home. He had been refused entry into a number of pubs so his friends ordered a taxi and tried to get him to go with them but he said he wanted to walk."

CCTV footage from various cameras in the town show him falling over a few times, which confirms his drunken state.
