Northern waterways suffering

CURRENTLY the northern waterways are suffering stoppages.

The electrics on Leeds Lock (1) on the Aire & Calder packed up on Monday, closing its operation, Keith Gudgin reports.

Swing bridge

Another swing bridge failure on the Leeds & Liverpool on Tuesday, but this time not one of the normal failures but Spencer's Swing Bridge (36).

Then too much silt closes the Calder & Hebble at Ganny Lock (9), that could take some clearing.

Down south another swing bridge, Winkwell Swing Bridge on the Grand Union at Hemel Hempstead is still closed, as the hydraulic contractors are having difficulty finding a method of repair.
