YET another broken lock closes a canal—another on the Kennet & Avon.

Yesterday, Wednesday, Hamstead Lock (81) on the canal just outside Newbury, failed closing the waterway, Keith Gudgin reports.

This time it is another collar failure with it broken off making the gate unoperable.

However it is hoped that this time the enginers who are on site today will be able to effect a relatively quick repair and have the navigation open by the end of the day.
