Clearing Severn rubbish

Published: Wednesday, 23 December 2009

THE rubbish that piled up around the arches of the Severn Bridge at Worcester is being cleared to allow better passage.

This week, the Environment Agency, Worcestershire County Council, Worcester City Council and British Waterways are clearing all the debris that has been left, including trees that are affecting navigation.

Most of the debris has been caused by the recent flood, but there is also rubbish that has been thrown into the river that collects around the piers.

A team from the Environment Agency moved the rubbish into skips provided by the city council, which were floated on a barge provided by  British Waterways.
