Water shortage causes GU summit restrictions

THE Marsworth Flight on the summit pound of the Grand Union Canal is under restriction.

This is caused by 'a potential loss of water' Canal & River Trust announce, with boats allowed passage from 8.30 to 2pm only.

Yet 'Our Man at the Summit' tells us that though Wilstone is low, Tringford is down but not low and both Marsworth and Startops reservoirs are three quarters full.

However the short pound below Marsworth top lock is empty this morning, with no safety fencing and a six foot drop, that signifies a leak.  You wouldn't drown but it would be a cold uncomfortable night, he remarks.
